How to Style: High Textured Pomp
In this How to Style, we will take you through styling a High Textured Pomp - a modern approach to a classic men's hairstyle.
You might be wondering what exactly a Pompadour is. The word 'Pomp' is thrown around generously in the barbering world. A Pompadour, or Pomp, refers to the hair being brushed or combed backward, with volume on top.
The style bears the namesake Madame de Pompadour, a mistress of King Louis XV of France. Madame is credited for being the one who is said to have invented the Pomp!
After Madame de Pompadour coined the style, it was popularized by the movie stars and greasers of the 1950s, and was generally worn neat and tidy. Think Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, or Johnny Cash. All of these rockers from the '50s wore a variation of the Pomp.
In this How To Style, we will take the classic foundations of the style but add a modern touch by emphasizing texture to create a more casual look that remains sharp.
If you're wanting to recreate this style, you'll need 6 inches of hair on top, with at least 4 inches on the sides. Ask your barber to keep it tight and taper around the ears and neckline while leaving the overall length.
The Textured Pomp is a versatile look and is just as dapper with a tight bald fade as it is with the extra length.
Before you get into styling your hair, we recommend washing your hair using Everyday Shampoo followed with Conditioner. Having your hair freshly cleaned makes styling so much easier!
